Learning outcomes

Awareness of ethical, commercial and management issues in technology related professions.
Ability to evaluate multiple, and possibly conflicting, requirements such employment contracts, national legislation, professional codes of conduct and personal ethics.
Use and articulate a decision making process.

Assessments

Reflection and application of the unit learning outcomes will be assessed through coursework assignments and a final examination, both using case study question format.

The coursework contributes 40% to the unit mark.
Responses to case study question 1 are due February 15, 2012.
Written responses to to the case studies must be submitted using the Mosaic website.

90 minutes end of unit examination contributes 60% to the unit mark. This formula sheet will be provided with the exam paper.

Ethical analysis with consideration for professional codes of conduct, intellectual property contracts, legislative frameworks and the decision process
Leadership and management issues in the workplace
Financial analysis using interest and present values
Risk analysis using maximin criterion, minimax regret criterion, expected value criterion and decision trees

Students must bring their own calculator to the exam. This formula sheet will be provided with the exam paper.
